Tourist visas

If you are a US citizen, you may be wondering whether you need a tourist visa to visit India. The answer to that question depends on your country and the purpose of your visit. If you are visiting India for medical treatment, attending a short term yoga program, or attending a conference organized by a government department, you may be eligible for an e-visa. However, if you have no specific reason for visiting India, you should choose a different type of visa, such as a business visa.

Provisional visas

Unlike the regular student visa, provisional student visas are valid for three months, from the day of issuance. The foreign national must have an acceptance letter from the Indian institution they are wishing to attend in order to apply for this visa. In addition, the foreign student must have all the necessary documents before the embassy or consulate will issue a visa. This is a prerequisite for a student visa, since airlines will not allow them to check in without a visa.
